Connected To Your Care — On Your Terms 

The following section of our Terms and Conditions governs your consent to and use of SMS (Short Message Service / text message) communications with Aegis Medical. By providing your mobile phone number and opting into our SMS program, you agree to the terms below. 

SMS Program Description 

Aegis Medical offers SMS communication as part of our virtual telehealth and addiction care services in Ontario, Canada. SMS messages may be used for the following purposes: 

  • Appointment confirmations, reminders, and rescheduling notifications. 
  • Care coordination messages from your treatment team. 
  • Prescription and pharmacy coordination updates. 
  • General service announcements relevant to your care. 
  • Responses to inquiries you initiate via text message. 

We do not use SMS for unsolicited marketing or promotional offers unrelated to your care. 

Consent to Receive SMS Messages 

By providing your mobile phone number to Aegis Medical — whether through our intake form, patient portal, or verbally during a consultation — and by not opting out, you expressly consent to receive text messages from Aegis Medical at the mobile number provided. 

Consent is not a condition of receiving medical care or services. You may receive care regardless of whether you consent to SMS communications. 

Message Frequency 

Message frequency will vary based on your treatment plan and appointment schedule. You may receive up to several messages per week during active phases of care. You can contact us at any time to adjust your communication preferences. 

Message and Data Rates 

Message and data rates may apply. These charges are determined by your mobile carrier and are your responsibility. Aegis Medical does not charge any additional fees for SMS communications. Please consult your wireless service plan for details. 

How to Opt Out 

You may opt out of receiving SMS messages from Aegis Medical at any time by: 

  • Replying STOP to any SMS message you receive from us. 
  • Contacting us directly at www.aegismedical.ca to update your communication preferences. 

Upon receipt of your opt-out request, we will send one final confirmation message and will cease sending SMS messages. Please note that opting out of SMS communications does not affect your ability to receive care or other forms of communication such as email or phone. 

How to Get Help 

For assistance with our SMS program, reply HELP to any message you receive, or contact us through our website at www.aegismedical.ca. A member of our care team will respond within one (1) business day. 

Supported Carriers 

Our SMS service is compatible with all major Canadian wireless carriers, including but not limited to Bell, Rogers, Telus, Fido, Freedom Mobile, Videotron, and their affiliated brands. Carrier support is not guaranteed for all networks. 

Privacy of SMS Communications 

SMS messages may contain sensitive health information. While we take reasonable precautions to protect information transmitted via SMS, standard text messaging is not an encrypted channel. For highly sensitive communications, we recommend using our secure patient portal or contacting us by phone. 

All SMS communications are subject to our Privacy Policy (see above), including our obligations under PHIPA and PIPEDA. 

Accuracy of Mobile Number 

You are responsible for ensuring that the mobile phone number you provide to Aegis Medical is accurate and up to date. If your phone number changes, please notify us promptly through our website or during your next appointment to avoid delivery of messages to unintended recipients. 

Limitation of Liability 

Aegis Medical is not liable for any delays or failures in the delivery of SMS messages caused by your wireless carrier or network conditions. SMS messages should not be used for urgent medical matters or emergencies. In the event of a medical emergency, please call 911 or proceed to your nearest emergency department. 

Changes to SMS Terms 

We reserve the right to modify these SMS terms at any time. Changes will be effective upon posting to our website. Continued use of our SMS service following notice of changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
